Torkwase Dyson's monumental blue-black abstractions land at Pace — architecture-scaled paintings and forms mapping water, space and liberation.

Dyson has become one of the defining abstract artists of her generation, and her saturated blue fields are overwhelming at gallery scale in a way reproductions flatten completely. Sharing a building with Benglis and Shechet, this is the single densest stop in Chelsea — three heavyweight women sculptors and painters under one roof, free. If you only have an hour in the neighborhood, spend it at 540 West 25th.

What to expect

Large-scale paintings in deep, layered blues with precise geometric interventions, possibly joined by sculptural elements, across Pace's galleries. The palette rewards patience — forms surface slowly out of the darkness the longer you look. Combined with the two concurrent Pace shows, plan about 45 minutes in the building.
