CTH's Uptown Shakespeare is the easier, funkier alternative to the Delacorte — no ticket lottery, a free RSVP, a Harlem crowd, and productions that have won Obies and Drama Desk nominations. Partner performances (Jazzmobile Fridays, Harlem Chamber Players, Harlem Opera) fill out the nights. The amphitheater sits at the base of the park's historic fire watchtower.
What to expect
A roughly 100-minute modern-dress Shakespeare production with no intermission, outdoors at 8:30pm; free RSVP, general seating; pre-show partner concerts at 7pm on select nights.
