Every Sunday afternoon this season, Berta Indeed's Let the Music Play brings local jazz musicians and vocalists to Ralph Ellison Plaza, home of the monumental Invisible Man memorial on Riverside Drive. The vibe is neighborly and unhurried, with the Hudson a block away. If you are uptown and want three hours of free live jazz, drop by with a folding chair.
What to expect
Musicians set up on the plaza at Riverside Drive and 150th Street, trading sets over the afternoon while neighbors come and go. Expect standards, vocal features and an easygoing crowd. People drift in and out through the afternoon, so there is no need to arrive at the start or stay for the whole thing.
