Luna is Dean Wareham's band, formed in New York in 1991 out of the wreckage of Galaxie 500, and the four-piece booked here is the long-running lineup of Wareham, Britta Phillips, Sean Eden and Lee Wall. They broke up in 2005 and have only played together again since 2015, so a hometown club date is not a routine thing. Sony Hall's low basement cabaret is a far smaller room than that catalog usually gets.
What to expect
A two-guitar band in a supper-club basement: chiming, reverb-heavy playing with Phillips' bass carrying much of the melody, drawn from three decades of records. Lael Neale opens with the spare drone-pop she makes for Sub Pop, largely voice and Omnichord. Between the cabaret tables and the standing floor, the room reads more listening club than rock venue.
