Play Streets are one of the oldest ideas in New York recreation - close a block to cars, staff it, and let the neighbourhood's children have the roadway. PAL has run them in Harlem for decades, and this one sits right beside Marcus Garvey Park on West 124th. Free, supervised and the most literal possible answer to what to do with a summer weekday. No registration, just show up on the block.
What to expect
Expect the street barricaded at both ends, PAL staff running games and activities on the roadway, and neighbourhood children moving between them freely. Equipment is supplied. Marcus Garvey Park is immediately adjacent, with its playground, pool and amphitheatre if you want more space.
