For eight hours Eastern Parkway and the Grand Concourse belong to walkers, cyclists, skaters and strollers instead of traffic, and the whole thing costs nothing. Rest stops stack free bike rentals, live entertainment, interactive art and giveaways, including a helmet giveaway on the Concourse. If you have only one free thing on your list this weekend, this is the one that puts two boroughs' worth of street under your feet.
What to expect
Arrive at any point along the route and simply start moving — there is no gate, no ticket and no fixed direction. Expect DJ sets and dance demos at activity hubs, free helmet fittings and bike loans, and family-friendly art stations spaced along the closed roadway. Crowds thicken toward late morning and thin out by mid-afternoon.

- The Brooklyn route runs Eastern Parkway from Grand Army Plaza to Buffalo Avenue; the Bronx route runs the Grand Concourse from East Tremont Avenue to Mosholu Pa
- The 2/3/4/5 along Eastern Parkway and the B/D at Fordham Road or Kingsbridge Road put you directly on the routes
- Bring water and sunscreen; shade along the Concourse is patchy at midday
- Rest-stop activities run on their own mini-schedules — the route is worth walking end to end rather than parking in one spot
- Fully free and drop-in, so it works for kids, strollers and casual riders as well as serious cyclists

Do I need to register or buy a ticket?
No. Summer Streets is free and open to everyone with no ticket, RSVP or registration.
Can I bring my own bike, or do I have to rent?
Bring your own if you have one. Free bike rentals are also offered at rest stops on a first-come basis while the supply lasts.
Is this the last Summer Streets of the year?
Yes — the Brooklyn and Bronx routes close out the 2026 season after the Manhattan dates earlier in August.
