Bryant Park Yoga is the largest free class in the city and the setting is the entire point — a full acre of lawn ringed by Midtown towers, the New York Public Library at one end, and up to a thousand mats laid out in rows as the light drops behind Sixth Avenue. Instructors rotate weekly and teach for genuinely mixed ability, so first-timers are not stranded. It costs nothing, it lasts an hour, and it is the best free thing Midtown does all summer.
What to expect
Check-in tents sit at all four corners of the lawn, marked with pink barricades, and pre-registered attendees show a QR code. Arrive fifteen minutes early to check in and roll out a mat with room around it. The class runs one hour with the instructor amplified across the lawn.
Good to know
- The B/D/F/M to 42nd Street-Bryant Park exits into the park; the 7 stops at Fifth Avenue
- Bring your own mat and water — neither is provided
- Pre-registration is strongly encouraged and gets you weather cancellation notices
- Check in at any of the four pink-marked corner tents before class
- Classes are only cancelled for genuinely unsafe weather; follow @bryantparknyc for day-of calls
