Snug Harbor Cultural Center & Botanical Garden is an 83-acre campus at 1000 Richmond Terrace on Staten Island's North Shore, mixing public gardens and open meadows with museums, artist studios, performance spaces and 19th-century architecture. The outdoor grounds and gardens are free of charge, open seven days a week from dawn to dusk year round, and do not require advance registration or ticketing. The Staten Island Ferry is free and runs every half hour; from the St George Terminal take any bus from Ramp D for a 10-minute ride, the S40 to the Sailor's Snug Harbor Gate or Snug Harbor Road stops, the S44 to Lafayette Ave/Fillmore Street or Henderson Ave/Westbury Ave. A weekend here usually means walking the free grounds, paying $5 to enter the Chinese Scholar's Garden, and picnicking at the public tables along Gazebo Row.
