For one Sunday a year Broadway sells itself off folding tables: shows and theater organizations line West 44th and West 45th Streets with posters, props and costume pieces, with a silent auction in Shubert.

Once a year Broadway turns its own side streets into a tag sale, with shows, unions and theater companies staffing tables that sell signed posters, worn costume pieces, cast recordings and props straight out of the wings. The silent auction runs in Shubert Alley and the live grand auction closes the day from the Times Square pedestrian plaza. This is the 40th edition; the first 39 raised $21.8 million for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.

What to expect

Tables along West 44th and West 45th Streets stacked with memorabilia pulled from Broadway's own storage: window cards, playbills, props, costume pieces and oddities that never reach a store. Shubert Alley holds the silent auction, and the live grand auction runs from the Times Square pedestrian plaza between 45th and 46th. Participating shows and lots are announced after Labor Day.
