In 1993 Anthony Fauci and Larry Kramer went at each other on television over how the government was handling the AIDS crisis, and Daniel Fish has turned that broadcast into an hour of theater. Will Brill plays Fauci, Thomas Jay Ryan plays Kramer, Greig Sargeant moderates and Jenny Seastone voices the people calling in from around the country. It premiered at NYU Skirball and this is the start of its Brooklyn run.

What to expect

One hour, no intermission, in St. Ann's warehouse space under the Brooklyn Bridge. Fish works from the record of the televised confrontation, so the argument arrives unsoftened: a government insider and an agitator talking past each other while ordinary people phone in. Expect Fish's characteristically stripped, formally exact staging rather than a period recreation with wigs and sets.

Good to know

  • It runs about an hour with no intermission
  • St. Ann's Warehouse is on Water Street in Dumbo, near the East River ferry landing and the F, A and C trains
  • This is the opening stretch of the Brooklyn run; the production played NYU Skirball first
  • Weekend performances include both a matinee and an evening show, so check which one you booked
  • Curtain times vary by day of the week, so confirm yours with the box office
  • The material deals directly with the AIDS crisis and the anger around it
