Sonia Boyce, who won the Golden Lion at the 2022 Venice Biennale for Britain, spent two days filming New Yorkers, community groups and the Resistance Revival Chorus as they sang, danced and made things at the Queens Museum. The footage became videos, kaleidoscopic wallpaper and photographs layered into one immersive room. If you want a museum show that feels like Queens itself, this is it, with the chorus's procession ending at the famous Panorama.
What to expect
You walk into a layered environment of patterned wallpaper, projected video and photographs showing workshops, movement, a Día de Muertos ofrenda ceremony and a chorus procession. Call-and-response chants echo through the galleries, so it is lively rather than hushed.
