Three very different artists turn one neighborhood inside out here: Luis Inca Ramos builds miniature dioramas of real Sunset Park corners you can lean in and inspect, Valeri Larko paints the landscape around Green-Wood, and Al Díaz — the writer behind SAMO© with Basquiat — brings his own New York vocabulary. Curator Tamavis D. Santiago frames the whole thing as memory becoming art rather than nostalgia. If you live anywhere near Sunset Park, you will recognize your own block on a table.
What to expect
An evening opening at Industry City with the dioramas, paintings and works on view together, artists and curator on hand, and the usual Industry City courtyard crowd spilling around it. Ramos' dioramas reward close looking — they reproduce specific storefronts and stoops. Expect conversation as much as viewing.
