Astoria's north end throws its end-of-summer street festival along 31st Street, from the Ditmars Boulevard N/W terminal up to 21st Avenue. Sponsored by the Astoria Restoration Association, it is the neighborhood-run counterpoint to Manhattan's touring avenue fairs, on the same stretch that hosts the Astoria Spring Festival in May and Astoria Alive in September. The Greek bakeries and tavernas of Ditmars are steps away when you're done.
What to expect
Vendor and food booths run the blocks of 31st Street just north of the Ditmars Boulevard subway terminal, with the street closed to cars from 10am to 6pm. This is the corridor Astoria uses for its recurring neighborhood festivals, so expect a local, family-heavy crowd from the surrounding blocks rather than a tourist scene.
