Broadway through Morningside Heights is one of the better stretches of Manhattan to have closed to cars, bracketed by Cathedral Parkway at one end and the Columbia gates at the other. Six blocks is short enough to walk properly rather than skim, unlike the mile-long avenue fairs. And it is free, which makes it an easy add to a morning at the cathedral or a walk in Riverside Park.
What to expect
Six closed blocks of Broadway between 110th and 116th Street, lined with food grills, craft and clothing vendors, community and nonprofit tables and children's rides. Free to enter or leave at any cross street. The crowd mixes Columbia students, neighborhood families and regulars from the blocks either side.
