New York City Center is a performing arts house at 131 W 55th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues in Manhattan. It says it “has played a defining role in the cultural life of the city since 1943” and that Mayor Fiorello La Guardia founded the Neo-Moorish building as Manhattan’s first performing arts center. It runs three stages — the Mainstage, Stage I and Stage II — with a listed “Max. seating capacity: 2,257” on the Mainstage. The programming is dance and musical theater: the Encores! concert stagings, the Fall for Dance Festival, and Manhattan Theatre Club plays on Stages I and II. Tickets are sold online, by phone and at the Customer Care and Box Office window, “Mon-Sat Noon-8pm” and “Sun Noon-6pm (or until curtain)”. Doors open 30 minutes before performance time and there is no early admittance.
