The Downtown Alliance filled six empty Lower Manhattan storefronts with independent retailers this summer, and Element Brooklyn's is the strangest of them: a gallery you walk through by nose rather than eye, with interactive scent stations, candle-making you do yourself and a refillery that takes your own bottle back. It is free to enter and sits a block off the Seaport's main drag. If you are doing Pier 17 anyway, this is the detour worth making on the way.
What to expect
A small storefront arranged as a scent walk, with staff guiding you through the notes and candle-making set up at a work table. The refillery serves returning customers with their own containers. Browsing is free and unhurried; buying is optional.
