It is the most incongruous sight in New York sports: a rodeo arena built inside Madison Square Garden. The event is loud, fast and family-friendly, with pyrotechnics, a live announcer and the surreal experience of smelling livestock on 33rd Street. Sunday's matinee is the championship round, where the weekend's leaders ride for the event title.

What to expect

Roughly two and a half hours per session with about 35 riders and two rounds each night. Sunday's championship round decides the event winner. The dirt floor means lower-bowl seats are close to the action; upper-level seats show the whole arena.

Good to know

  • Tickets via Ticketmaster; multi-day packages are offered for all three sessions.
  • The Sunday 1:45 PM matinee is the finals and the most family-oriented session.
  • Expect pyrotechnics and loud music; ear protection for young kids is a good idea.
  • MSG is cashless with a small-bag policy.
  • Penn Station is directly below the arena.

Going? Keep it.
