Anicka Yi's first big outdoor work grows microbes in glowing columns at Storm King's 500 acres — peak-foliage sculpture, open the holiday Monday
Anicka Yi set acrylic columns in an artist-designed pool at an excavation-like site, filling them with soil and water from Storm King's own ponds so algae and microbial colonies bloom in painterly bands of color. Around it, Liz Glynn's Gilded Age ballroom furniture recast in concrete sits in the grass and Saif Azzuz's steel-and-car-parts sturgeon nods to the Hudson. If you want one art day in the hills while the leaves turn, this is the season to go.
What to expect
Expect a long day of walking open meadows and wooded hills between monumental sculptures, with the three 2026 commissions spread across the grounds. Docent-led walking tours run daily and are included with admission, and indoor galleries show works by Louise Bourgeois, Louise Nevelson and David Smith.
