FIGMENT started in 2007 as a one-day free art takeover of Governors Island, and it is back in New York for the first time since 2024, this time at El Barrio Artspace PS 109 in East Harlem. Every project has to be interactive, from sculpture and installations to performances and workshops, and nothing is for sale. If you like art you can touch, play with and help make, this one-day return is worth the trip uptown.
What to expect
Expect indoor and outdoor spaces at the former public school building filled with participatory projects chosen from an open call. Visitors wander between installations, join workshops and stumble into performances, with the volunteer team on hand. Plan to spend a couple of hours and try things.

- Every artwork is meant to be interacted with, so go ahead and participate.
- The 6 train to 96th or 103rd Street is the closest subway; the building is between Second and Third Avenues.
- The lineup comes from an open call, so projects vary widely.
