Van Brunt Street picked up a corner bar on August 22, and it is horses more or less all the way down. Pony's pours a martini billed as fit for a pony, keeps Miller High Life ponies cold and will sell you a pony shot. It runs as a coffee counter Monday through Friday and a proper bar Wednesday through Sunday nights, which makes it one of the few Red Hook rooms good for both ends of a day.

What to expect

Check the schedule before you go - the cafe and bar keep different days, and the overlap is Wednesday through Friday. Nights are the fuller experience, with the martini and the pony shot as the house signatures. Red Hook is not near a subway, so plan on the B61 bus, the NYC Ferry, or a longer walk from Carroll Gardens.

Good to know

  • Two different schedules: cafe Monday to Friday in the daytime, bar Wednesday to Sunday at night.
  • Getting there: NYC Ferry to Red Hook or the B61 bus - there is no subway stop nearby.
  • Miller High Life ponies and a house pony shot are the running joke, and the point.
