The Gandhi Peace March has walked Liberty Avenue for 31 years, through the stretch of Richmond Hill that is the centre of Indo-Caribbean New York. Mandirs, schools and civic groups walk together, and the route runs past the roti shops and sari stores that make this one of the most distinctive commercial strips in the city. It is a quiet, unglamorous procession that tells you more about Queens than most things with a bigger crowd.
