Green-Wood's ponds and old trees are a magnet for migrating birds, and this walk gets you inside before the gates open, when the grounds are quiet. In September you can catch warblers in fall plumage, flycatchers, sparrows, vireos and swallows on the move south. If you're a birder or want to become one, the dawn access is the draw.
What to expect
Check in at the main entrance at first light and walk the grounds with a guide, pausing with binoculars wherever birds are active. The pace is slow, but the terrain is hilly and uneven.
