The first of NYFF's six Currents shorts programs gathers five films from around the world: Yixuan Zhang's Branching Streams Flow in the Darkness, Josh Weissbach's A Correspondence, Natalia Marín's Chronicle of Tiredness, Jamie Crewe's Rebecca's Mess and Tatsu Aoki's Harmony. Shorts programs are where the festival takes its biggest formal risks. If you like discovering filmmakers early, this is the block.
