MoMA's Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera survey enters its final week, the two Mexican modernists hung in dialogue rather than apart.

Kahlo and Rivera are the two most reproduced Mexican artists of the twentieth century, and MoMA has spent months hanging them as a single argument rather than two separate careers. The Last Dream closes September 12, so this is genuinely the final full weekend before the countdown gets ugly and the timed-entry slots vanish. If you have been telling yourself all summer you would get to it, this is the weekend the excuse runs out.

What to expect

Timed entry, a queue at the escalators, and galleries that stay busy from opening onward. Once inside you get paintings, works on paper and archival material tracing the couple's shared and diverging output. Budget an hour and a half if you want to read the wall texts rather than shuffle past them.

Good to know

  • Take the E or M to Fifth Avenue-53rd Street, or the B, D, F or M to 47-50 Streets-Rockefeller Center
  • Book a timed slot in advance rather than walking up; a closing-window show sells its slots out
  • Go right at opening or in the last two hours if you want to actually stand in front of a painting
  • The show is on the Museum's main exhibition floors and is fully step-free via the elevators
  • Best for anyone who has only seen these paintings on a tote bag; kids do fine here
  • Members skip the line, which is worth knowing if you are travelling with a MoMA member

Common questions

When does the exhibition close?

September 12, 2026. Labor Day weekend is the last full weekend before it comes down.

Do I need a separate ticket?

No. It is included with general MoMA admission, but a timed entry reservation is strongly recommended.

How long should I allow?

About 90 minutes for the exhibition itself, longer if you want to see MoMA's collection floors on the same ticket.
