Hypnotic Brass Ensemble are seven brothers raised on their father Phil Cohran's Sun Ra-lineage jazz, and they play with the force of a marching band fused to a hip-hop beat. Adding Talib Kweli, one of Brooklyn's most respected lyricists, turns the Blue Note into a block party at close range. If you want jazz club intimacy with hip-hop energy, book the late set.
