Most 5Ks in the city loop a park drive; this one sends you through old-growth forest and a maple collection heading into fall, inside a botanical garden normally off-limits to runners. About a mile of the course is new terrain this year, with uneven trail sections that make it more adventure than PR attempt. If you want a race that ends with a full day in the garden, sign up.
What to expect
Runners start near the Visitor Center, head onto garden roads and forest trails, and finish to a post-run celebration on Daffodil Hill. Spectators with garden tickets can cheer along the Visitor Center stretch.
Good to know
- Metro-North's Botanical Garden station is across the street from the entrance
- B, D and 4 trains to Bedford Park Blvd, then a walk or the Bx26
- Participants must be 13 or older; minors need a registered adult
- Trail sections are uneven — wear real running shoes
