Most people cross McGolrick Park without looking up; this walk is about the trees overhead, led after dark by John Kilcullen, a NYC Parks arborist who shares the history and stories of the urban forest. Before the walk, Tammy Hsu performs a piece inspired by the birds that live in the park, and Greenpoint Trash Club runs a cleanup for anyone who wants to pitch in. If you like your nature programming a little unusual and very local, this equinox evening is worth a detour.
What to expect
The evening moves in three parts: a neighborhood cleanup, a short performance in the park, and then a guided walk as night falls, with stops at trees along the way. It's a small, community-scale gathering, and this is the launch of a series that will continue to other parks.
