Ghosts of Mars

John Carpenter's Martian siege western screens on a 35mm print as a noon matinee in Nitehawk's grindhouse-revival series The Deuce, with food served at your seat.

A 35mm print of late Carpenter is not something New York offers often, and Nitehawk is showing it in the format the film was actually released in. The Deuce exists to recreate the 42nd Street habit of watching disreputable genre pictures at odd hours, and a noon start is the joke made literal. It was Carpenter's last film to get a wide release, which gives the reappraisal some stakes.

What to expect

Ninety-eight minutes on 35mm, rated R, running to about 1:48 PM. Servers take orders before the film and deliver to your seat during it, so budget beyond the ticket. The theater faces Bartel-Pritchard Square at the southwest corner of Prospect Park.

Good to know

  • Nitehawk lists the format as 35mm and the run time as 98 minutes.
  • Priced as an $18 event ticket rather than the $15 repertory rate.
  • In-seat food and drink service runs during the film; order before it starts.
