Pat Metheny has spent five decades reinventing jazz guitar, and Side-Eye is his vehicle for putting brilliant younger players next to him on stage. That mix means his classic tunes come back re-voiced alongside new material. If you love jazz or just great guitar playing, the Beacon's ornate hall is an ideal place to hear him.

What to expect

A seated theater concert in the restored 1929 Beacon, with long instrumental pieces and plenty of Metheny's signature guitar-synth sound. The crowd is attentive and musician-heavy.

Good to know

  • 1, 2 and 3 trains at 72 St are two blocks away
  • Entrances are off Broadway between West 74th and 75th Streets
  • Seated show — the balcony has great sightlines for watching hands
  • Upper West Side restaurants on Amsterdam fill up before showtime
  • Best for jazz fans and guitar players
