SCREAMPLAY premiered alongside Blood Simple in 1985, was distributed by Troma, then all but disappeared, and now it is back in 4K from Seder's own 16mm print. Nearly the whole film was built inside a 3,200-square-foot Boston loft with matte paintings, models and expressionist lighting, and underground legend George Kuchar plays the greasy landlord. If you love handmade cult cinema, catch it with the filmmakers in the room.
What to expect
The 91-minute feature is preceded by Seder's six-minute 1977 short trilogy In the City, and the evening shows end with a Q&A with Seder and Piana. Expect a campy, gothic, genuinely inventive ride in Anthology's intimate theater.
