What began in 2006 with 73 exhibitors has become the largest international gathering for artists' books, and it fills MoMA PS1's old school building room by room with zines, risograph prints, rare editions and publishers you will not find in any store. This year doubles as a birthday: Printed Matter and PS1 both turn 50. If you collect zines, love design or just want to wander something unpredictable, this is the weekend's essential Queens outing.
What to expect
Expect crowded classrooms and hallways lined with exhibitor tables, plus book launches, lectures, music and workshops spread through the fair days. Bring a tote — most people leave with a stack of zines and prints bought directly from the people who made them.

- Take the 7 to Court Square or the E or M to Court Square–23 St; the G stops there too.
- The fair frequently reaches capacity, so register ahead and arrive early.
- Many small publishers prefer card or cash; bring both.
