Midtown's free weekly salsa lesson and social dance hits its last night of the season, right on Broadway at Greeley Square Park.

Every Friday this summer, office workers, tourists and seasoned dancers have turned a Broadway plaza into a salsa floor, and this is the final session. The first hour teaches moves, the second lets you use them with a partner, solo or someone new. If you have been meaning to try it, this is your last chance until next year, so bring a friend or come solo and find a partner on the plaza.

What to expect

A lesson for all levels led by an instructor, then the music turned up for an hour of open dancing on the plaza. Expect a friendly mix of beginners and regulars, DJs spinning salsa, onlookers cheering from the edges, and Herald Square traffic humming just beyond the dance floor.

Good to know

  • Take the B, D, F, M, N, Q, R or W to 34 St–Herald Sq; the park is on Broadway between 32nd and 33rd Streets
  • No partner needed; dancers rotate and solo dancing is welcome
  • Wear comfortable shoes with a smooth sole for turning
  • The series is produced by Midtown Dance and hosted by the 34th Street Partnership
  • Beginners should arrive at the start for the lesson
