Chef Andrew Carmellini has taken over the restaurant inside the Public Theater with a tavern menu of clams casino, a hot buttered lobster roll, steak tartare and a prime-filet steak Diane. The Serge Becker-designed room nods to old New York supper clubs and continues a partnership with the Public that began when Joe's Pub opened in 1998. If you have tickets at the Public or Joe's Pub, this is the new place to eat before the curtain.

What to expect

Inside the Public Theater's landmark building you'll find a wood-paneled dining room and bar. The dinner menu runs from parlor snacks like devilish eggs and carved ham with cheddar popovers to entrées such as fish and chips, a tavern burger and Ora King salmon, with a list of classic cocktails.
