Beetles Band Concert at the Forest Park Bandshell

The second of the weekend's two Forest Park Bandshell concerts, this one at Sunday golden hour in the Queens woods.

Sunday at five in late September is the best hour Forest Park has — low light through the oaks, the bandshell's seats filling with people who walked over from Woodhaven and Richmond Hill. The music is the excuse; the amphitheatre under old trees is the reason. Two hours, no ticket booth, and you are out before the light goes.

What to expect

An outdoor concert in the bandshell's fixed-seat amphitheatre, running through the late afternoon into early evening. The setting is wooded and the audience is largely from the surrounding Queens neighbourhoods.

Good to know

  • The J at Woodhaven Boulevard and the Q11/Q21 buses are the closest transit
  • Fixed seating faces the stage; bring a chair if you want to sit further back
  • Forest Park's trails and carousel are worth arriving early for
  • Evening light fades fast by late September — plan the walk out
  • The bandshell is open-air with no cover, so check the weather
