Short films, music videos, spec ads and experimental pieces made by Bushwick's own filmmakers, projected outdoors in the plaza of the neighborhood's best-loved park. The Bushwick Film Collective is a grassroots group built around sharing work and meeting other creatives, so the evening is half screening and half hang. If you make things, want to, or just like seeing what your neighbors are shooting, this is the neighborhood's film night.
What to expect
Expect a crowd gathering in the Central Plaza and performance area of Maria Hernandez Park as the evening goes on, a program of short pieces (generally 15 minutes or under) and plenty of mingling between screenings. It's a community-run, casual scene: filmmakers, actors, musicians and curious locals trading contacts and talking shop.
Good to know
- Take the L to Jefferson St or DeKalb Av, or the M to Knickerbocker Av; the park sits between Knickerbocker Ave, Irving Ave, Starr St and Suydam St.
- It's an outdoor screening, so bring a layer and something to sit on in case seating is limited.
- Filmmakers: bring a way to share your reel or contact info, since networking is a big part of the night.
- Arrive early to grab a good spot and meet people before the program starts.
