Jacob H. Schiff Playground, one of Manhattan's larger playgrounds and home to the 213-foot Pieces for Peace mosaic, gives its soccer and softball fields over to Family Fun Day. Past editions with NYC Parks brought crafts, inflatables, music, jumbo games and an obstacle course to this West Harlem block, free and open to all. If you have kids with energy to burn uptown, this is an easy, no-planning weekend outing.
What to expect
The turf soccer field and softball field are set aside for the event, and the rest of the playground stays open with basketball and handball courts, play areas and a tree-lined lawn. The 2026 program hasn't been posted, but earlier Family Fun Days here had crafts, inflatables, music and field games.
Good to know
- The 1 train to 137 St–City College is one avenue west; the A/B/C/D at 145 St also works
- Past editions were free and open to the public, with no tickets needed
- Bring water and sunscreen; the turf fields get hot in the sun
