Families bring worn-out shirts and fabric scraps into ICP's galleries and braid them together into one shared textile, steps from the Yves Saint Laurent and Photography exhibition. It's led by Cassandra Mayela Allen, a Venezuelan, Skowhegan-trained artist whose collective braided works treat old garments as living archives of memory. For a hands-on museum afternoon where kids make instead of just look, this is the weekend's pick.
What to expect
You'll check in at the admission desk, pick up the free Yves Saint Laurent and Photography Kids' Guide, and join Allen in the gallery, where fabric from every family gets braided into a communal piece. Materials are on hand if you forget yours. Come early or stay late to walk through the YSL show and Photobooks USA 2000–25.
