UBS Arena was built for hockey, with steep stands that put the noise right on the ice, and the Islanders' early-season Saturday home game against the Tampa Bay Lightning is an easy long-weekend outing from eastern Queens. The LIRR drops you at the arena's own station. If you want an NHL night that is easier to get into than the Garden, this is it.
What to expect
Expect a loud home crowd in a modern arena designed for hockey sightlines, with food halls and bars on the concourse and Belmont Park next door. Plan for about two and a half hours of game time, plus the LIRR ride, which runs extra trains around the start and finish of events.
