Hundreds of street trees line the edge of Prospect Park, and at this session you'll weed, mulch and loosen the soil in their beds alongside the Prospect Park Alliance. It's a practical way to give back to Brooklyn's backyard, and you leave knowing how to care for the street tree outside your own door. If you want a weekend plan that feels useful and gets you outside with friends, a group or a teen, sign up for this one.

What to expect

Volunteers meet along Prospect Park Southwest by the 16th Street entrance, where Alliance staff show you what to do, then work the tree beds along the park's edge. Expect light physical work: pulling weeds, spreading mulch and aerating compacted soil around the trees, plus tips you can use on your own block.

Good to know

  • Register ahead as an individual or group through the Prospect Park Alliance volunteer portal, or call (929) 888-6826

  • The F/G at 15 St–Prospect Park is a short walk from the 16th Street entrance
  • Wear closed-toe shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dirty
  • Bring water and sun protection; it's outdoor work on the sidewalk tree beds
  • The series continues this fall at other spots around the park edge if this one doesn't fit
