Wave Hill's gardens are some of the most admired in the city, and its plant sale lets you take home the kinds of plants its horticulturists actually grow. Staff are there to help you choose for a sunny yard, a shady apartment or a windy balcony. If you're making the trip for the late-season dahlias and the Palisades views anyway, leave room in your bag.

What to expect

Tables of potted plants set up on the grounds, with garden staff circulating to answer questions. Most visitors combine a browse at the sale with a walk through the flower and wild gardens and a stop at the Hudson overlook.

Good to know

  • The sale is included with admission to the grounds; there is no separate entry fee.
  • Take Metro-North to Riverdale or the 1 train to 242nd St and use Wave Hill's shuttle when running.
