The city's most famous used bookstore is celebrating 99 years, and the day's signings pair two very different writers: Aciman, whose Call Me By Your Name became a modern classic, and Backderf, whose graphic memoir My Friend Dahmer and books Trashed and Kent State made him a comics heavyweight. The Rare Book Room itself is worth the trip. If you want a signed copy for your shelf, this is the easy Saturday errand.

What to expect

Two back-to-back signing hours in a small, antique-lined room on the Strand's third floor. Expect a line that moves at the pace of personal inscriptions, and plenty of browsing on the way up through floors of new, used and rare books. Strand Day brings extra activity to the whole store.
