In 1964 a psychologist persuaded Gloria, a 30-year-old waitress and single mother, to be filmed in therapy sessions with three famous psychologists, and the footage trained clinicians for decades. Reeves layers those unguarded sessions with newsreels, home movies, commercials and Cold War propaganda from Gloria's lifetime. If you want to see experimental cinema projected the way it was made, go on the dual-projection night.
What to expect
Expect an attentive art-house crowd in Anthology's historic screening rooms on Second Avenue. The opening screening uses two projectors, one 16mm, layering images live; later shows use a single digital version. The series also includes Reeves's shorts and her film When It Was Blue.
