Highland Park Horticulture Helpers puts you to work on the planted beds of a 198-acre park straddling the Brooklyn–Queens border, home to the Ridgewood Reservoir. NYC Parks and The Forest Park Trust supply the gloves, tools and know-how, so it doubles as a hands-on gardening lesson for people who have never weeded a bed. If you want a useful, outdoorsy morning that leaves a park better than you found it, sign up.

What to expect

Volunteers join NYC Parks and The Forest Park Trust at the BBQ Blue area of Highland Park to weed, water, cultivate or otherwise tend the park's horticultural spaces. It's a working morning outdoors, so plan to kneel, dig and get some dirt on you while picking up basic gardening skills from park staff.

Good to know
