Gallery of Scent by Element Brooklyn

Element Brooklyn's Seaport pop-up treats fragrance like gallery art — build a scent profile, pour a candle and leave with a custom scent portrait.

Most pop-ups ask you to look; this one asks you to smell your way through a gallery, mapping your own scent profile before pouring a candle to match. Element Brooklyn's Seaport takeover is one of six indie RE:Store pop-ups animating Front Street's historic storefronts this summer, and it's the most experiential of the bunch. It makes a great rainy-day hour, a distinctive date stop, or a source for the most personal souvenir in the neighborhood.

What to expect

A boutique-meets-installation space where you sample scent families, get a 'scent portrait' reading, and browse sustainable candles and home goods. Hands-on candle-making sessions run on a schedule, and the surrounding blocks of the Seaport — Pier 17, the Tin Building, cobblestoned Front Street — round out the trip.

Good to know

  • Take the 2/3 or A/C to Fulton Street and walk toward the East River
  • Browsing the scent gallery is free; candle-making classes book separately
  • The refillery lets you top up home products with less waste
  • Pairs perfectly with a walk to Pier 17 and the Tin Building
  • Quietest on weekday afternoons
  • It's a limited summer run in a historic Front Street storefront

Common questions

Do I need a reservation?
