Grow & Gather gets families into the teaching gardens at Queens County Farm Museum with botanist Tess Fleming, learning to sow, weed, prune and harvest vegetables and dry herbs. Each hour ends with a tasting of a seasonal plant-based dish, and everyone takes home a prepared dish plus recipes. If your kids like getting their hands dirty, it is a cheap, grounded hour on a working farm.
What to expect
The group walks the teaching gardens, tries hands-on tasks matched to the season, then gathers for a tasting. It is a small, guided session that lasts about an hour.
Good to know
- Register ahead through the farm's ticket link.
- Dress for dirt: closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get muddy.
- Free on-site parking is available at the farm.
