Since 2018, Harlem Dance Club has turned Marcus Garvey Park's amphitheater into what it calls a launchpad of culture and rhythm, and this is its eighth voyage. The lineup of styles runs from Afro and house to Haitian, Indian and vogue, with live drummers keeping the energy up. If you would rather join a dance party than watch one, this free Harlem afternoon is made for you.
What to expect
Expect a community crowd on the amphitheater steps and floor, DJs and drummers trading off, and plenty of people pulled into the dancing. It is interactive rather than a seated show, and newcomers are welcome to jump in. Come in comfortable shoes and stay as long as you like as the afternoon rolls on.
