This is the last weekend of a festival carrying more than 125 films from about 20 countries, and the closing days are where the slate gets dense - Sad Girlz, Dreaming of Lions, Rooftops and seven shorts programs all land Friday and Saturday at Regal Union Square. Saturday night, the merengue biopic Milly: Queen of Merengue plays the United Palace. If you would rather be outside, Sunday closes the whole thing with a block party at Broadway and Dyckman.
What to expect
At Regal Union Square, expect a festival rhythm - overlapping start times, filmmakers introducing their own work, and Q&As that run long. The United Palace screening is a different animal, a former movie palace with a Washington Heights crowd. Sunday's closer is listed on the festival schedule as a two-hour block party rather than a seated program.
