Ballet Hispánico's teaching artists bring the dances of the Latin diaspora into CMOM's art space, pairing each style with the music, history and traditions it grew out of. The workshop is built for all abilities, so kids who have never taken a class dance next to ones who have. If you're doing Ballet Hispánico's block party on 89th Street the next day, this is a natural warm-up six blocks south.
What to expect
Each session lasts about 30 minutes in the museum's Inside Art space and runs twice in the late morning. Expect a short demonstration, then simplified steps everyone can follow while the teaching artist explains where each dance comes from. The museum's exhibits and makerspace crafts are open the same day.
