The Red Party is one of the city's dedicated goth and post-punk dance nights, the kind where black lace and eyeliner fill the floor and the DJs lean into Siouxsie-style darkwave. This edition adds a rare live set from Strange Boutique, the cult Washington, D.C.-area post-punk band. If October has you craving a long, dark dance night, $20 buys you the whole thing.

What to expect

A live band set followed by DJs Sean Templar and guest Patrick spinning dark dance music until close in Mercury Lounge's intimate back room. Expect a dressed-up crowd and a packed floor after midnight. The crowd tends to dress the part, with plenty of black velvet, lace and silver jewelry on the floor.

Good to know

  • Take the F to 2 Av; Mercury Lounge is on East Houston Street near Essex.
  • The party is 21 and over; state or federal ID is required.
  • It is an all-night dance party, so pace yourself and plan your ride home.
  • Goth and post-punk dress is encouraged but not required.
  • The room is small, so the live set can reach capacity.

Going? Keep it.
