ASSSSCAT is the show that defined UCB: one audience word, a guest telling unscripted true stories about it, and a stacked cast spinning those stories into scenes nobody planned. Past New York monologists have included Mark Hamill, Alan Alda, Tina Fey and Conan O'Brien, so the guest is part of the gamble. If you have never seen improv at this level, this is the benchmark.

What to expect

A black-box mainstage with tiered seating close to the performers. The monologist speaks between rounds of scenes, and the cast riffs, tags out and calls back to earlier bits across a full 90-minute set.

Good to know

  • Be at the theater a few minutes early; late ticket holders can lose their seats to the waitlist.
  • L to 3rd Av, or any train to 14th St–Union Square and walk east.
  • Under 17s must be with a parent or guardian, and material can be adult.
  • A livestream ticket is available if you cannot make it in person.
  • Lineups are not announced in advance and can change.
